Amazon recorded its biggest ever holiday season in terms of sales this year, with the Echo Dot and the Fire TV Stick + Alexa Voice Remote combo not only becoming the number one and number two top-selling Amazon devices but also the “best-selling products from any manufacturer in any category across all of Amazon, with millions sold,” said the company’s press release.
It was an amazing season for all of Amazon’s Echo devices, including the Echo Spot, Echo Buttons, and the aforementioned Echo Dot – a total sell out, leaving customers with no choice but to pre-order and queue up for Amazon to fill out their orders on a first come, first served basis.
The online e-commerce giant claims to have more than doubled the sales of its Fire TV Sticks this season compared to last year’s holiday season numbers for the product.
According to the company, the Fire TV family has maintained its number one position among streaming media devices in the US, UK, Germany, and Japan, not only on Amazon but across all retailers.
Not to be left behind, the Fire Kids Edition Tablets also recorded its best holiday season, selling almost two and a half times more devices than the previous season.
The press release also included some interesting Alexa facts and records about this bumper Amazon season.
The 2017 season saw millions of Amazon Prime members use Alexa’s services to voice-shop for gifts, devices, and essentials, with the Echo Dot, Fire TV Stick with Alexa Voice Remote and TP-Link Smart Plug Mini among the most voice-shopped items.
Another fun trivia in the press release was the tens of thousands of cocktails that Alexa helped mix for users – Martini and Manhattan topping the most asked for drinks, while the chocolate chip cookies recipe stole the show from other requested recipes.
The most Alexa-requested song of the season was none other than “Jingle Bells” and it was the East Coast Alexa users who out-requested the West Coast customers for holiday music by two and half times, while users across the country used Alexa’s services to turn on their holiday lights more than a million times.
Tens of millions of jokes were asked of Alexa this holiday season and Mom was the most Alexa-called person in the US and Germany while UK customers preferred to call Dad.
Compared to the previous holiday season, three times more time was spent listening to music on Alexa this season.
Also, three and a half times more Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays and Happy Hanukkah wishes came Alexa’s way as compared to the last season, and four times more questions were asked about Santa this season than the last.
Trolls and Elf were the most requested movies and the usage of Alexa on Fire TV in the US showed a jump of a whopping 889 percent from last year.
