The first full trailer for JURASSIC WORLD: FALLEN KINGDOM was unleashed during Thursday Night Football and it is everything one would expect from a JURASSIC WORLD (2015) sequel (the fifth in the JURASSIC PARK series) and much more, what with a dormant volcano on Isla Nublar suddenly coming alive, spewing fire, ash and lava on its prehistoric inhabitants and their would-be saviours.
The story picks up four years after the luxury resort and theme park Jurassic World on Isla Nublar was destroyed by the resident dinosaurs. The densely forested volcanic island was since abandoned, with the remaining dinosaur population left to fend for themselves – until now, as a dormant volcano is suddenly threatening to wipe them off the face of the planet one more time.

Former park manager for Jurassic World, Claire Dearing (Bryce Dallas Howard), founder of the Dinosaur Protection Group – an organization dedicated to protecting the prehistoric creatures –recruits Navy veteran and former velociraptor trainer Owen Grady (Chris Pratt), to help her in her mission to save the surviving dinosaurs on the island from a second extinction.
“This story takes dinosaurs and takes Jurassic where it’s never gone before,” says Bryce Dallas Howard — an indication that this time around the island of Isla Nublar may not be the final setting of the movie or, perhaps, the future installments of the series.
Chris Pratt says, “We’re literally blowing up the island,” which is, practically, evident from the way the dinosaurs and Howard, Pratt, and Justice Smith, who plays a young scientist and a member of the Dinosaur Protection Group, are seen running in terror amid plumes of smoke, flying ash, and raining debris from the erupting volcano.
“The Jurassic movies have always been suspenseful and exciting; we’re telling the next chapter,” says Pratt, which could be a hint that major surprises are in store, come June 22 next year.
“I love playing with suspense, I like intensity, and I love to make the audience feel the total experience,” Spanish director Juan Antonio Bayona further consolidates the suspense element in the film.
Regardless of how the story unfolds in this new installment of the Jurassic franchise, what the fans can rest assured of is spectacular edge-of-the-seat action, far more frightening scenes than ever before, and, without a doubt, more realistic looking animatronics dinosaurs.
“The challenge of making a sequel is finding the right balance between what people are expecting and what people will be surprised by,” Bayona says.
“It’s like nothing you’ve ever seen before,” Howard promises.
