While the 30th of October may not have been the perfect day at the White House in the face of indictments against President Trump’s former campaign chief and his deputy, and the revelation that another campaign aide had pleaded guilty of lying to the FBI in the Trump-Russia election collusion investigation, the day did end on a happy and festive note for the First Family.

President Trump and First Lady Melania hosted a magnificent Halloween party on the South Lawn, attended by 6,000 children and adults as well as military families and members of community organizations.

Melania and her team worked through the weekend to ensure that it would be an unforgettable Halloween eve at the White House, keeping everybody updated about the progress in the elaborate arrangements through tweets.

Jack O’Lanterns featuring the faces of former presidents were scattered across the lawns while giant spiders and webs hung from the columns of the South Portico giving the scene an eerie ambiance worthy of a Halloween Eve party. Fog machines and spooky music just added to the spooky effect.

Veterans Affairs Secretary David Shulkin did well to look spooky enough with a make-believe knife through his head while Education Secretary Betsy DeVos came dressed as Ms. Frizzle from ‘The Magic School Bus.’

On Friday, the president welcomed children of White House reporters for a brief pre-Halloween get together at the Oval Office where he was seen laughing and joking with the kids and handing out White House Hershey’s Kisses.

“I cannot believe the media produced such beautiful kids. How the media did this, I don’t know,” Trump joked as the children crowded around the presidential desk.

Let’s just say that the horrors of the evening were far more enjoyable for Trump and his administration than the horrors that unfolded during the day.
