Here’s the star’s must-watch fun announcement

Further confirmation came from Pepsi with a tweet saying, “It’s official: @jtimberlake is taking the #PepsiHalftime stage at #SBLII Tune into #SNF tonight for the full scoop & we’ll see you on Feb 4!”

NFL also validated the news with a statement on the NFL Communications website.

“Global superstar JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE will headline the PEPSI SUPER BOWL LII HALFTIME SHOW on NBC at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minnesota on Sunday, Feb. 4, 2018, it was confirmed tonight,” said the statement.

“This will be Timberlake’s third time performing on the Super Bowl Halftime stage, giving him the distinction of having the most appearances by an individual entertainer. He previously performed at Super Bowls XXXV and XXXVIII ,” the statement noted.

What was not mentioned, however, was the infamous “Nipplegate” scandal Timberlake stirred up following the 2004 Super Bowl when he ripped off fellow performer Janet Jackson’s clothes to expose her breasts, making headlines and attracting lawsuits in the bargain.

Well, fourteen years on the star can be expected to have matured enough to give a scandal-free performance come February.

Speaking exclusively to host Mike Tirico on Sunday Night Football, Timberlake said, “It’s a huge moment so I was very excited,” referring to that fateful “Nipplegate” night.

Asked if anything similar is likely to happen this time around, the “Sexy Back” singer said,

“I don’t know, man. I’m 36 now. I don’t know how much of that I can do anymore.”

He said that his main aim for the upcoming event is to give a unifying performance and ensure that he gets everybody to shake a leg in the 12 minutes he’ll have on stage.

“What I really want to do is take the opportunity to put together a performance that feels like it unifies. I feel like that would be the ultimate accomplishment, and then the icing on the cake is at some point, within that 12 minutes, that everybody is shaking their booty.”

The Memphis-born star has appeared on the Super Bowl Halftime stage twice before, including the etched-in-the-memory “Boobgate” event. His Feb 2018 appearance would give him the record for most appearances by an individual entertainer on the show.

Other top entertainers to have graced the Half Time stage in recent times include Lady Gaga, Coldplay, Beyoncé, Katy Perry, Bruno Mars, Madonna, The Who, Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Prince, the Rolling Stones, Paul McCartney, U2 and more.

Currently, Timberlake is involved with his fifth studio album which according to reports is hometown Memphis-inspired. It will be his first release after last year’s hit “Can’t Stop the Feeling.”

His recent appearances include the September 23 Pilgrimage Festival in Franklin, Tennessee, as well as the Dave Matthews Concert for Charlottesville on Sept. 24.
