The Best and Worst Moments of the American Music Awards (AMA) – 2016

The 44th annual AMA musical awards – 2016, hosted by Gigi Hadid and Jay Pharaoh, had its fair share of moments that can be categorized as its best and worst including its weirdest and politically charged moments.

Gigi and Jay handled the performance filled evening like pros but not without a few hiccups in the show; for example, the show’s display and teleprompter glitches, moving ahead of the announcers, left the crowd confused, at times.

Teyana Taylor tried but failed to read the teleprompter while announcing the New Artist of the Year. When a lot squinting did not work she shrugged and told the audience, I wear glasses.

What some may consider being the best moments of the awards ceremony may well be the worst for others. It is, therefore, up to the readers to form their own opinion.

Fifth Harmony’s Grand Entry: Fifth Harmony performing their hit “That’s My Girl,” after having made their surprise entry, descending on the stage from the ceiling.

Jay Pharaoh’s impression of Donald Trump: Jay Pharoah doing an impression of Donald Trump talking about his love for Bruno Mars, “I don’t know what color [Mars] is, so I can’t deport him… I’m going to ‘funk’ this country up bigly.”

Lady Gaga’s on-stage performance: Though Lady Gaga’s vocals may not have been that fantastic, according to many, the setup was pretty much stunning.

Nicki Minage’s performance: Staying seated on a wicker throne for the most part of her act with Ariana Grande, flipping her legs in the air, Nicki Minage may have entranced quite a few. Confidence seemed to be oozing out of her!

Green Day on stage: More than the performance of “Bang Bang,” the highlight of Green Day’s presence on stage was their politically charged chanting of, “no Trump, no KKK, no fascist USA.

Bringing back the 90s: Hadid and Pharoah announcing that the 90s were in the house, and how right they were – Travis Barker’s performance together with The Chainsmokers was indeed a nostalgia moment, not to forget, James Bay’s fedora.

The Weekend: The Weekend, walking through an innovative corridor, singing the hell out of Starboy” was another noteworthy wow moment, felt many.

Nial Horan’s solo act: The rendition of “This Town” by Neil was quite cute, if not outstanding.

Selena Gomez’s acceptance speech: Glowing in a red Prada gown, 24-year-old Selene Gomez getting pretty candid in her address to the crowd saying, “I think it’s safe to say most of you know my life whether I liked it or not…I had to stop because I had everything and I was absolutely broken inside. I kept it all together enough to where I would never let you down, but I kept it too much together to where I let myself down.”
